What’s Happening in the Village of Pleasantville Update

1. Summer Camp – The Village intends to open summer camp in 2021.  COVID restrictions mean the camp will operate differently this summer from past years.  The Village previewed the plan and sought input from Village Residents on Wednesday, March 10th. The Village will finalize the plan during its work session tonight at 7pm.

2. Village Pool – The Village intends to open the Village Pool for the 2021 summer season. While operational, due to its age, the Village Pool requires extensive investment for either repairs to extend its life, or replacement. Comments can be submitted to pool@pleasantville-ny.gov .  The Village will soon discuss the plan for opening the Pool in 2021 and plans to hold a public comment session.

3. Pool Survey – Results from the Pool Survey of over 936 people have been released and can be found here: https://www.pleasantville-ny.gov/sites/g/files/vyhlif1076/f/uploads/poolsurveyreportboard.2.3.pdf. Key findings include the desire of most villagers to maintain a separate kiddy pool and increase deck space. Consultants are being interviewed and the next step is to develop schematic design options and cost estimates.  

4. Leaf Blowers – The Village sent out a leaf blower survey which closed on March 12th. The Village will shortly announce the results and hold another public comment session. Please continue to send comments to leafblowers@pleasantville-ny.gov

5. Saw Mill River Parkway Work – Work continues in Mount Pleasant and Pleasantville between Exit 26 and Exit 30, as NYSDOT is elevating the roadway in order to meet 100-year flood projections. For more information on the project, please visit: https://lowerwestchesterbridges.com/

6. Floor Area Ratio Zoning Analysis – The Village is working with a professional planning consultant, BFJ Planning, to draft Floor Area Ratio legislation for consideration by the Village Board.  A public hearing will be scheduled before a law is adopted. 7. Police Reform Initiative – The Village released a draft of the police reform plan and held an input session on March 4. The final plan is due by the end of March. 8. Manville Road Pedestrian Safety Project – The Village has received a commitment for an additional $127,000 from the NYSDOT to support this project. The project, to improve pedestrian safety on Manville road from Memorial Plaza to Tompkins Avenue has been postponed until the spring of 2022 due to economic uncertainty.  The Village will send the project out to bid later this year before making a final decision on whether to proceed. The $1.6 million grant administered by the NYSDOT, which partially supports the project, has been extended for a year.

9. Civic Space Project – This project to create a programmed civic space next to the train station has been postponed due to economic uncertainty. 

10. Village Elections – Village residents will vote TOMORROW, March 16, 2021 for Mayor and two Board of Trustee seats. PLEASE VOTE!  You should have received a postcard from the Westchester County Board of Elections with your polling place. 11. Reminder Winter Over Night Parking Restrictions in Effect:  Per Village Code, no vehicle shall be parked for a period longer than 1/2 hour on any street or highway in the Village at any time between the hours of 1:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. from December 1st through March 31st.  Cars parked in violation of the code are subject to a $25 fine even if snow or ice are not predicted. 

12. Development Update –   

  • 70 Memorial Plaza – three level underground garage completed; piping and ductwork for HVAC, fire sprinkler, plumbing and storm water systems are being installed in the garage areas. Steel framing should begin shortly. Still on projected completion timeline.
  • 52 Depew Street – Demolition work on the structures completed. Site remediation work and excavation for the new development in progress
  • 98 Washington Avenue – This building will have 14 affordable units and is about 90% completed.
