What’s Happening - Village of Pleasantville – December, 2020

What’s Happening - Village of Pleasantville – December, 2020

  1. Holiday Parking - Holiday parking meter fees will be suspended through Saturday, December 26th, so please visit our local businesses!  Note that though meter fees are suspended, the normal meter time limits will be enforced.
  2. Holiday Tree Lighting – Our Holiday Tree and a new Dreidel are now on display.  Because of NY State COVID restrictions prohibiting large gatherings the Village has elected not to hold a sing-along this year.
  3. Outdoor Dining – Per the request of restaurant owners, the Village Board discussed allowing barriers to remain on Wheeler and Washington Avenue, so that outdoor dining can continue through the winter. Tents would require a separate permit through the Building Department.
  4. Non-Resident Water Customers – The Village of Pleasantville currently delivers water to 477 customers outside of Village boundaries. These customers are directly responsible for water pipe maintenance and repair costs.  The Village is working with the Town of Mount Pleasant to discuss long-term options for these homeowners.
  5. Police Reform Initiative – The Village is in the middle of a state-mandated process to explore police reform.  Initial conversations have taken place with local stakeholders, and a public forum was held to gather input on potential reforms.  More information on this process can be found here: https://www.pleasantville-ny.gov/police-reform-reinvention-collaborative. Comments can be submitted to policereform@pleasantville-ny.gov.
  6. New Sanitation Truck – The Village will be acquiring a new sanitation truck for approximately $250,000.  This is a scheduled replacement of older equipment and will take approximately a year to receive.
  7. Village Pool – While operational, due to its age, the Village Pool requires extensive investment for either repairs to extend its life, or replacement. The Village formed a task force to research and vet potential options for pool repair or replacement led by Village resident Troy Tassier.  More information can be found here: https://www.pleasantville-ny.gov/projects-initiatives/pages/pool-task-force. Comments can be submitted to pool@pleasantville-ny.gov.
  8. Leaf Blowers – As a result of noise complaints from Village residents and a recommendation from the Conservation Advisory Committee, the Village held an online public forum on October 15th to hear from residents.  The Village is soliciting more comments on this issue and plans to hold additional public sessions. Please send comments to leafblowers@pleasantville-ny.gov .
  9. Manville Road Pedestrian Safety Project – This project, to improve pedestrian safety on Manville road from Memorial Plaza to Tompkins Avenue has been postponed until the spring of 2022 due to economic uncertainty.  The $1.5 million NY State Department of Transportation grant partially supporting this project has been extended for a year.
  10. Civic Space Project – This project to create a programmed civic space next to the train station has been postponed due to economic uncertainty.
  11. Village Elections – The Village will vote on March 16, 2021 for Mayor and two Board of Trustee seats.  Independent nominating petitions can be obtained from the Westchester County Board of Elections and must be signed between December 29th and February 9th.  Please contact the Westchester County Board of Elections at 914-995-5700 for more information. Those interested may also contact the Village Administrator at 914-769-1940.
  12. Development Update:
  • 70 Memorial Plaza – Foundation work is complete on this 4-story building which will contain 79 apartments and street level retail space.  The Village is currently leasing spaces in the Cooley Street parking lot and Memorial Plaza to expedite construction and minimize hauling.  Completion is expected in 1 to 2 years.
  • 52 Depew Street – This planned 71-unit apartment structure was approved as of right (under existing zoning guidelines) by the Planning Commission in March of 2020.  Demolition work and brownfield remediation is underway with construction expected to start within 6 months.
  • 98 Washington Avenue – This building will have 14 affordable units and is about 90% completed.
