JOB POSTING – COORDINATOR SENIOR CITIZEN SERVICES

The Village of Pleasantville, Westchester County, seeks a qualified individual to fill the position of Coordinator – Senior Citizen Services. This is a competitive civil service job classification, and candidates must meet minimum qualifications listed below.
 
The Coordinator – Senior Citizen Services is responsible for the operation of the Village’s Clinton Street Senior Center, including the planning, organizing, coordinating and implementation of a variety of services to enhance the quality of life and the well-being of senior citizens. This position is responsible for directing the day-to-day administration of various activities/programs designed to meet the needs of the aging population, including transportation and a nutrition/food program. The incumbent coordinates the provision of services to participants and promotes these programs, which address the recreational, social, emotional, and nutritional, and health needs of the client population. The incumbent may interact with other professionals, (i.e. medical personnel, social workers, nutritionists,) to determine what additional services may need to be provided to program participants. The Coordinator is also responsible for supervision of personnel and volunteers, as well as the preparation of the annual budget for the Clinton Street Senior Center and its programming.
 
Examples of work include:
  • Plans, directs, coordinates and implements a wide range of activities tailored to meet the specific needs and interests of the elderly;
  • Designs programs that address the social, physical and emotional needs of the senior population; the programs include various in-house activities as well as sub-contracted services geared toward enhancing their quality of life;
  • Provides guidance and, where necessary, assistance, in a wide variety of personal service areas involving the elderly population (i.e. housing, social security, Medicare, welfare, food stamps, or similar programs);
The Coordinator – Senior Citizen Services position is part of the management team of the Village and has regular interaction with the Board of Trustees. The annual salary for this position is $70,000 to $80,000 depending on the candidate’s experience and qualifications.
 
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Either (a) a Bachelor's Degree* in Social Work, Recreation Administration, Therapeutic Recreation, Psychology, Gerontology, Human Services or related social service degree and two years of professional experience in the planning, development, and/or administration of programs and services for the elderly; or (b) a Bachelor's Degree* and three years experience as described in (a) above.
SUBSTITUTION: Satisfactory completion of 30 credits* towards a Master's Degree in any of the fields specified in (a) above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to two years professional experience in the planning, development and/or administration of programs and services for the elderly.
 
PROVISIONAL APPOINTMENT: There is no active list for this position and the test has not been requested by New York State. Therefore, candidates must meet the minimum qualifications and the selected individual will be provisionally appointed to the position. This person will have to take the exam when held, pass, and be among the top three candidates interested in the position to remain in the position.
 
*SPECIAL NOTE: Education beyond the secondary level must be from an institution   recognized or accredited by the Board of Regents of the New York State Department of Education as a post-secondary, degree-granting institution.
