Village Clerk

The position of Village Clerk is recognized under Village Law as one of two mandatory positions a Village Board must fill ( the other being that of the Village Treasurer). The Village Clerk is a public officer and custodian of all public records maintained by the Village. The primary responsibilities of the Village Clerk involve records management, coordination and supervision of Village Elections, and attendance at all official meetings of the Board of Trustees for recording official minutes of the meeting.  The Village Clerk is appointed by the Village Board and serves a term of two (2) years.  Clerks are not subject to term limits and may be reappointed at the expiration of a term.

The Village Clerk's office  also maintains birth and death records. However, these  records are limited and pertain only to persons who were born in the Village of Pleasantville or who actually died within the Village of Pleasantville.

Other responsibilities include filing local laws with the State of New York, maintaining the official  Village Code and  Master Fee Schedule; preparing legal notices and publishing the same; presiding over bid openings; administering insurance claims, Freedom of Information Act requests, and numerous permits issued by the Village.
