Does the Police Department Provide Information About Child Safety?
Available at Village Hall and the Recreation Center are identification and information packages for child car safety seats. Each package contains four vinyl self-adhesive stickers, one information label, and a personalized leaflet. The information label, which is attached to the rear of the car seat, provides important information about the child in that seat, including: name, date of birth, photo, medical history, and emergency contacts. This label is not visible from outside the vehicle, ensuring the privacy of these personal facts. Two vinyl car seat stickers attach to each side of the child's car seat, and two vinyl window stickers attach to the rear side windows of the vehicle. These stickers alert rescuers that the vehicle occupants participate in the program.
Also available at Village Hall and the Recreation Center are packets provided by Phelps Memorial Hospital for use in helmets in the case of accident involving bicycles, skateboards, or roller blades. These packets contain stickers to be filled out with personal information so that, in case of an accident, rescue efforts will proceed more smoothly and efficiently by Emergency Medical Service personnel.
All residents are invited to pick up packets at either location.

What are the Current Speeding Laws in School Zones?
Gov. George E. Pataki has signed into law legislation to provide enhanced penalties for speeding in a school zone between the hours of 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. on school days. The law doubles the maximum fine that can be imposed for speeding in a school zone.
Under the enhanced law, the amount of the fine and/or penalty for speeding in a school zone depends upon the speed upon which the conviction was based.
Where the clocked speed exceeds the speed limit by 10 miles per hour or less, the bill imposes a fine of not less than $60 nor more than $200; where the clock speed exceeds the speed limit by more than 10 but not more than 30 miles per hour, the bill imposes a fine of not less than $ 120 nor more than $400, or a penalty of not more than 15 days imprisonment, or both. Where the clocked speed exceeds the speed limit by more than 30 miles per hour, the bill imposes a fine of not less than $240 nor more than $800, or a penalty of not more than 30 days imprisonment or both.
The Village Police Department actively enforces speed limits in school zones.
What Are the Requirement for House Numbering?
Is your house quickly identifiable to someone driving down your street at night or in bad weather? If you have a mailbox on the street, the Police Department recommends that reflective numbers at least 3 inches in be placed on both sides of the mailbox, rather than on the front. If your mailbox is by your front door, make sure your house number is clearly visible from the street. These steps will aid police, fire, and ambulance crews in finding your house quickly if an emergency arises.
